Former NFL players Chris Valletta and Sean James think the league needs to hold Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett accountable for his actions.Garrett was suspended indefinitely on Friday for his role in an ugly brawl that took place at the end of Thursday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, an altercation that resulted in two other suspensions and hefty fines levied against both teams.

Why do so many African-American professional athletes today view Muhammad Ali as a hero, but fall short of even trying to live by the same code of ethics that made him a hero? Ali became a hero because he was never silent. He said things he knew would make people uncomfortable, even angry, but that he believed would help bring about awareness and change. Ali was, as a result, a controversial figure during his life. He angered countless people with his message and many people hated him.  It was only later that Ali was recognized for his impact on our country.

After the tragic events that took place in Ferguson last year, Be In The Know About Bullying founder and former NFL player Sean James had an epiphany. He realized that communication between urban youth and police officers isn’t getting better—it’s getting worse. So he decided to create a program to heal relations between the St. Louis Police Department and urban youth. The program is called Gateway and its main goal is to get people to identify with cops, not fear them.

Be In The Know About Bullying hosted their second annual fundraising event.  For this year’s event, Be In The Know teamed up with Erno Laszlo and Kings of Cole to create their first annual “Kings of Cause Charity Cocktail Event” at the beautiful Erno Laszlo Institute in New York City.  Be In The Know About Bullying is an anti-bullying organization that is centered on the principles of education, leadership, and mentorship.  Much of the leadership and mentorship is facilitated through the contributions of the many NFL ambassadors affiliated with the organization.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (DHHS), 1 out of every 3 American kids are being bullied on a daily basis. 83 percent of girls, and 79 percent of boys report being bullied either in school or online. Students who are bullies as young adults continue the trend of abuse and violence into adulthood. By the age of 30, approximately 40 percent of boys who were identified as bullies in school had been arrested three or more times.

Last night, Kings of Cole hosted their first annual "Kings of Cause Charity Cocktail Event" at The Institute, Erno Laszlo, in honor of October being National Anti-Bully Month. The event was hosted by Sean James, former NFL player and founder of Be In The Know About Bullying foundation, as well as designer and owner of Kings of Cole, Elana Brynes. Tracy Anderson, celebrity trainer, and former NFL player Brendon Ayanbadejo both spoke about the importance of fighting against bullying. Elana Brynes designed a special collection for the event, and 50% of the proceeds from the collection are going to the Be In The Know About Bullying Foundation.

Encompassing a brilliant combination of talent, dedication, will power, and inspiration, Richard Incognito and Jonathan Martin both traveled long, arduous roads before earning coveted roster spots with the Miami Dolphins. Unfortunately, while these rare characteristics keep fans in awe, consequences inherent with the stresses and sacrifices they endure at such a high level can – at times – come to the surface in ugly ways. Thus, when Incognito was suspended for bullying Martin, reaction was more of a disapproving head shake than huge surprise.

I had the oppurtunity to discuss the NFL's Jonathan Martin case on PIX 11 New York City. I think Martin is just cut from a different cloth, and comes from an elite pedigree that most NFL players dont come from. "The locker rooms in the NFL are different than your elite University, "It is a different culture, and players are looking for a weak leak regardless if your teammates. You're around players that have different backgrounds than you have, different values and ideals. I think Martin was the prototypical Stanford student and athlete. He earned a degree in ancient Greek and Roman classics and if not for football would have become the first fourth-generation African-American to attend Harvard.

(New York Cty) I had the pleasure of attending the "HMI Emery Awards" last night with my close friend Brendon Ayanbadejo, who was being honored. I had never seen Brendon so nervous to speak before, and yet he gave one of the best speeches I have ever heard- from him, or anyone else for that matter. I have to say that the greatest feeling for me is to see others like Brendon do great things. I believe that it is more important to empower others so that they can find their greatness. I was once told, "It's not about you Sean", and it will never be about me. It will always be about the people we can empower to be better today than they were yesterday. "Just A Thought"

James created Be In The Know About Bullying while attaining his MBA degree alongside other NFL players at The George Washington University School of Business.   The organization was developed to combat the epidemic of bullying among today's youth. Be In The Know is a unique and innovative program that tackles the issue of bullying through a hybrid of educational programming and ambassadorships for NFL players, UFC fighters, and Olympians.  It is creating a new definition for children of what it means to lead, exhibit strength of character, and to “be better.”

Twenty years after receiving my bachelor's degree, I enrolled in the George Washington University School of Business and attained my EMBA Degree. I never thought in a million years I would be wearing a cap and gown in my 40s. Did I just write that... It was a long two and a half years of stressful late nights and long weekends, but the feeling of building new relationships and attianing new business skills and knowledge was all worth it.

A professional football player who enters the business world after 5 or 10 seasons in the NFL has a few things going for him: wealth, an unbeatable work ethic, a certain degree of name recognition, and the cachet that attaches to players in America’s most popular sport.  There was a tangible energy throughout the Living Room at W New York- Times Square last night as MADONNA – A Transformational Exhibition, the never-before-seen photographs of the music and fashion legend’s iconic 1980s street style, made the next stop on its traveling, multi-media tour. The exhibit was shot by world renowned photographers, Richard Corman and George DuBose and curated by Rock Paper Photo, the ultimate online photography gallery founded by Madonna’s longtime manager, Guy Oseary. Photographer Richard Corman was on hand as two of his photographs were transformed live by famed NYC street artist, Alec Monopoly with his signature ‘Monopoly Man’ tag. The New York debut of the exhibition featured sounds by renowned DJ Posso and kept visitors hydrated with vitaminwater.

Athletes for Vets (AV) is a non-profit organization giving individuals an opportunity to pay tribute to US military service men and women through service, scholarship, and awareness. The event is hosted by Dereck Faulkner, former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver and Founder/President of Athletes for Vets. Proceeds from this event will be used for AV’s upcoming programs and campaigns.

Lynn Harris last night.  Throughout the week many of Harris' close friends and literary pals such as Eric Jerome Dickey and Terrance Dean talked with fans about the legacy of one of today's most prolific African-American scribes.
